Wu Yu handed the wrench to Ma Hu and told him to use it.
Ma Hu gripped the tool and swung it viciously at Tang Youquan’s head. Tang Youquan instinctively tried to lean back. The pointed edge of the wrench barely grazed his face, tearing a hideous, horrifying gash across his cheek.
Seeing that his first strike had missed—and that Tang Youquan had actually managed to dodge—Ma Hu cursed under his breath and swung again without hesitation.
This time, Tang Youquan didn’t manage to escape.
The wrench landed squarely on the left side of his skull.
In an instant, Tang Youquan was dead.
Zhou Xiaotiao, who had been standing nearby, still intended to continue torturing him—but he suddenly realized that Tang Youquan wasn’t moving at all.
Only then did the group slowly come to the horrifying realization: he was already dead.
In that moment, all of them snapped awake.
Panic set in, and they immediately began blaming one another.
Zhou Xiaotiao accused Ma Hu of using too much force and killing him outright. Ma Hu blamed Wu Yu for handing him the wrench in the first place. Wu Yu and Huang Bin, in turn, blamed Zhou Xiaotiao for playing around with a dog leash and getting noticed by Tang Youquan, which led to everything that followed.
After arguing for a while, they finally came to an agreement: no one was allowed to speak a word of this to anyone. If the truth got out, none of the four of them would escape punishment.
They immediately began destroying evidence.
Ma Hu smashed the broken surveillance camera at the entrance into pieces. Zhou Xiaotiao, trying to stage the scene as a burglary, even climbed onto the bed and scattered clothes from the bedside cabinet all over the mattress to make the room look ransacked.
As for the wrench, they walked a long distance away—far enough that they believed the police would never trace it back—and shoved it deep into a bush.
Wu Yu then calmly recounted every detail of their actions to the group.
After Wu Yu finished confessing everything, Zhao Donglai and Yang Su left the interrogation room after greeting the others, then departed from the criminal police unit.
On the way back, Luo Fei kept thinking about how he would explain everything to his uncle and aunt.
The case involving Wu Yu and the others was extremely severe. Even though Luo Fei wasn’t fully proficient in criminal law yet, his studies had already given him a clear understanding: this was a case of intentional homicide. Ma Hu, as the main perpetrator, would face at least ten years in prison. Luo Fei immediately took a taxi to his uncle’s house.
When he arrived, his uncle was sitting on the sofa smoking. The coffee table in front of him was covered with cigarette butts, and the entire living room was filled with thick smoke.
Even though Wu Zhihui had always claimed he had given up on Wu Yu, he was still his biological son. Deep down, he clearly still cared.
Wu Yan, his aunt, and Luo Fei’s second aunt were sitting nearby on stools. His aunt was quietly crying, while the other two women tried to comfort her.
As soon as Luo Fei stepped inside, everyone turned to look at him.
“Xiao Fei, what exactly happened to Xiao Yu?” his second aunt asked anxiously, unable to hold back.
Luo Fei glanced at his uncle and aunt. Their eyes were full of hope—they were waiting for good news.
But what awaited them was disappointment.
“So tell us. What exactly did that beast do?” Wu Zhihui said after Luo Fei remained silent for a long time, his voice low and steady as he took another drag from his cigarette.
Luo Fei no longer hesitated. He told them everything about what Wu Yu and the others had done to Tang Youquan, word for word.
“That beast… that damned beast! How could he do something like this! If he were here right now, I’d beat him to death myself!” Wu Zhihui roared in rage the moment he finished listening.
“How could these kids become so cruel…” his second aunt said, unable to believe it.
Wu Yan opened her mouth as if she wanted to defend Wu Yu, but when she saw her brother’s expression—and thought about what Wu Yu had done—she swallowed her words and only kept crying silently.
The room fell into a heavy silence, broken only by the aunt’s sobbing.
At that moment, Luo Fei’s second uncle suddenly rushed in from outside, drenched in sweat as if he had run all the way there.
“Zhao Changfa, you damn fool! You’re playing mahjong and don’t answer your phone or messages—are you trying to fly to heaven?! Something huge has happened at home and we couldn’t even find you when we needed you!” his wife immediately exploded at him.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! My phone was charging and I didn’t see anything! If I had seen it, I would’ve rushed over immediately!” he apologized repeatedly. “But what exactly happened to Xiao Yu?”
Luo Fei explained the situation to him again.
After hearing it, the second uncle also fell silent. He sat down next to Wu Zhihui, lit a cigarette, and said nothing.
No one knew how long passed before his second aunt turned to Luo Fei again.

For the first time, he arrived right on time.
“Wow, you’re actually late today?” Jiang Xiaoxiao teased as soon as she saw him. “Luo Fei, be honest—what were you doing last night? This doesn’t seem like you at all.”
“Yeah, did you go on a date or something?” Wu Wei chimed in.
Luo Fei shook his head and returned to his seat without a word. He wasn’t in the mood for jokes. Wu Yu’s case had left him feeling heavy and unsettled.
He knew he hadn’t done anything wrong—but watching his family fall apart emotionally still weighed on him. He wasn’t cold-blooded enough to feel nothing.
He closed his eyes and focused inwardly.
