“So that's the complete story behind Tang Hu's crime,” Zhou Weimin said with a sigh.

He looked up at Luo Fei and the others, only to discover that while he had been telling the story, the three of them had been steadily eating. Most of the dishes on the table were already gone.

“Are you three food buckets or something?” Zhou Weimin exclaimed.

Unable to continue talking, he immediately picked up his bowl and started eating as well.

After lunch, they returned to the police station at one o'clock.

The afternoon shift didn't start until 2:30 PM. Zhang Haiyang and Liu Haiquan had already stretched out in their chairs and fallen asleep.

Luo Fei brewed himself a cup of tea and prepared to read while drinking it. Ever since transmigrating, he had lost the habit of taking afternoon naps.

Suddenly, the system's voice rang out in his mind.

‘Two thousand gold coins. Still not enough. I need another thousand,’ Luo Fei thought.

He had already decided which gene he wanted to fuse next. It cost 3,000 gold coins—a hefty price—but considering the benefits it would bring, Luo Fei felt it was absolutely worth it.

The rest of the afternoon passed quietly.

Luo Fei spent the entire time reading. He had nearly finished studying The Law of Evidence.

Of course, finishing a book and fully memorizing it were two entirely different things.

By his estimate, it would take at least three or four more months before he could truly memorize and master all its contents.

Monday.

This time, Luo Fei wasn't the first person to arrive.

When he entered the office, Wu Wei, Zhao Le, and Jiang Xiaoxiao were already there.

The moment Luo Fei stepped inside, Wu Wei rushed over dramatically.

“Master, please accept my kneel of admiration!” he declared.

Beside him, Jiang Xiaoxiao rolled her eyes.

“Wu Wei, can you act a little more normal?”

Wu Wei immediately turned toward her.

“Me? Not normal? I'm perfectly normal! The truly abnormal one is Luo Fei!”

He spun back toward Luo Fei.

“Luo Fei, you're just… too unbelievable! How can you be this outstanding? You're so outstanding that I'm afraid to even be your colleague anymore. Working with someone like you is a constant surprise—and a constant blow to my self-esteem!”

Seeing his exaggerated reaction, Luo Fei immediately guessed that they had heard about yesterday's events.

Sure enough, Jiang Xiaoxiao quickly asked,

“Luo Fei, my master said you tracked down the robbers yesterday using your nose. Is that true? Is your sense of smell really that amazing?”

Luo Fei nodded.

“I wouldn't say I caught them. I just found them.”

Wu Wei immediately chimed in.

“That nose of yours is ridiculous! You smelled a corpse and uncovered the Gu Youguo murder case. Then yesterday you tracked down robbery suspects. You've been at the station for less than a month and you've already earned recognition twice. Your nose deserves all the credit!”

His face was filled with envy.

Jiang Xiaoxiao nodded in agreement.

“Seriously, that nose should be worshipped. Maybe Luo Fei's future promotions and fortune will all depend on it.”

Zhao Le remained seated quietly at his desk.

As usual, he didn't participate in their conversation.

At 8:30 AM, Zhou Weimin entered the office.

“Everyone, head to the conference room. I have an announcement.”

For some reason, Luo Fei felt that when Zhou Weimin said this, he had specifically glanced at him.

There seemed to be a deeper meaning hidden in that look.

Soon, everyone from the station had gathered in the conference room.

“Many of you probably already know that a robbery occurred at Longxugou last night. Two vocational high school students robbed a female teacher from No. 1 High School.”

Zhou Weimin paused briefly before continuing.

“What's worth mentioning is that the case was solved that very same night. The suspects were successfully apprehended, and the victim's belongings were recovered.”

“And the person who contributed the most to solving the case was our newest probationary officer—Comrade Luo Fei.”

“If not for Luo Fei, we wouldn't have cracked the case nearly so quickly.”

The room grew quiet.

“Everyone here knows that Luo Fei entered the force through the civil service examination. Since joining our station, however, his achievements have been obvious to all.”

“With only a tiny clue, he discovered the Gu Youguo murder case.”

“In the Orchid Garden murder investigation, the Criminal Investigation Team was able to solve the case quickly partly because of his important contributions. Their captain, Zhao Donglai, even personally called to thank us.”

“Beyond that, Luo Fei's dedication, diligence, and eagerness to learn are things everyone can see.”

“He arrives earlier than anyone else every morning. The first thing he does after arriving is study.”

“He understands that because he entered through the civil service examination, he lacks some professional experience and knowledge. That's why he refuses to waste even a single opportunity to improve himself.”

“It can honestly be said that Comrade Luo Fei has set an excellent example for everyone here.”

“Therefore, after deliberation by the Party Branch Committee of Songxin Town Police Station, we have decided to end Comrade Luo Fei's one-year probationary period early.”

“Starting today, Comrade Luo Fei is officially a full-fledged People's Police Officer of Songxin Town Police Station.”

At that point, Zhou Weimin looked directly at him.

“Luo Fei, come up here.”

Luo Fei had expected that he might be promoted early someday.

He just hadn't expected it to happen so suddenly.

And honestly, wasn't Zhou Weimin praising him a little too much?

Still, he immediately stood up and walked to the front.

Zhou Weimin handed him a brand-new police uniform.

The shoulder insignia now displayed one bar and one star.

As a probationary officer, Luo Fei's previous insignia had contained no stars at all.

“Go change into it,” Zhou Weimin instructed.

Luo Fei obediently changed into the new uniform on the spot.

Afterward, Zhou Weimin smiled.

“Now say a few words to everyone.”

Luo Fei nearly groaned inwardly.

‘It's just a promotion from probationary status. Is that really such a big deal? Couldn't they have given me some warning beforehand? I wasn't prepared for this at all,’ he thought.

Unfortunately, Zhou Weimin was looking at him with such encouragement that refusing wasn't an option.

So Luo Fei forced himself to speak.

“First of all, I'd like to thank the leadership for their trust and support. I'd also like to thank Songxin Town Police Station for giving me this opportunity.”

“I'll continue working hard, keep improving myself, and strive to live up to the expectations of the Party, the people, and this uniform I'm honored to wear.”

The moment he finished speaking, he felt secondhand embarrassment.

Without delay, he hurried back to his seat.

Zhou Weimin immediately began applauding.

Everyone else followed.

After the applause ended, Zhou Weimin specifically encouraged the newer probationary officers to learn from Luo Fei and strive for early promotion themselves.

Finally, after nearly half an hour, the meeting came to an end.
