In the following days, discussion about Jiang Sanqiang gradually faded. Everyone was busy with their own work, and few mentioned it again.
By Thursday, it was Luo Fei’s first solo patrol after being officially promoted.
During his probation period, he had only accompanied Zhang Haiyang on patrol twice, always in a learning role. This time, however, he was in charge.
Still, he felt no nervousness.
He was mentally mature, and more importantly—he had system backing.
Their patrol route started at Xinglong Street near the cement factory, where Luo Fei used to live. Several elderly neighbors even greeted him warmly along the way.
Next, they headed toward the bus station area, a place known for frequent incidents due to heavy foot traffic.
“Zhang Yu, Li Tian, what’s the usual salary for auxiliary police?” Luo Fei asked casually.
The two auxiliaries, both about his age, answered honestly that they earned around 2,700 yuan a month after deductions.
Luo Fei nodded. It was expected.
He encouraged them to study hard if they planned to stay long-term, suggesting they prepare for civil service or public institution exams.
Li Tian admitted he had tried the provincial exam but failed to make it into the interview stage.
As they talked, they arrived at a crossroads near the bus station.
On the opposite side of the road, two stylish young women had just gotten off a bus.
When the light turned green, Luo Fei and his team crossed the street.
As they passed the women, Luo Fei suddenly stopped.
His gaze sharpened.
At that moment, a strange smell reached his nose.
He had never encountered it before—but instinctively, he knew what it was.
Drugs.
It was a signal from the canine olfactory gene he had fused.
Without hesitation, he stepped forward.
“There’s a situation,” Luo Fei said seriously. “I smell drugs. I suspect they are carrying illegal substances. We need to conduct a search. Stay alert.”
The two auxiliaries immediately followed him.
As they approached, the two women appeared to be whispering, but Luo Fei quickly realized they were pretending.
“Ladies, please show your ID cards,” he said coldly.
“What do you mean? Why are you checking us?” the woman with the tattoo on her neck snapped.
“I suspect you are carrying drugs. Show your IDs and open your bags for inspection,” Luo Fei replied firmly.
The short-haired woman trembled slightly, but the tattooed one remained aggressive.
“Are you profiling us just because we have tattoos? What if you don’t find anything? Who takes responsibility? I’m going to report you!”
Her tone was confident, almost provocative.
Luo Fei raised his voice.
“That’s enough. You may file a complaint later. Now comply with the inspection.”
The pressure finally silenced her.
Reluctantly, both women produced their IDs and opened their bags.
Zhang Yu and Li Tian began searching their belongings.
The tattooed woman was named Zhang Siyu, 20, from Guangyuan County. The short-haired woman was named Zou Wen, also 20, from Guangyuan County.
