THUD THUD THUD!
An urgent knocking jolted Luo Fei awake from his sleep.
A faint suspicion had already formed in his mind.
He opened the door—and saw his aunt and Wu Yan standing outside.
His aunt’s eyes were red and swollen, her face full of panic. Wu Yan also looked anxious and unsettled.
“Mom… Aunt, what happened?” Luo Fei asked, even though he already had a guess.
His aunt burst into tears immediately.

“That damn man is at home!” she snapped angrily. “I told him to come, but he said the police wouldn’t arrest someone without reason. He even said he doesn’t have a son who’s a murderer—he refuses to come!”
Hearing that, Luo Fei frowned slightly.
“Mom, Aunt… you should go back and check on him. I’m afraid something might happen.”
The probability was low, but still—when your own son was arrested for murder, no one could be sure how a father would react.
Without wasting time, Luo Fei changed his clothes and rushed straight toward the Criminal Investigation Team.

“Officer Yang,” Luo Fei greeted quickly.
“Luo Fei? What brings you here?” Yang Su was also a little surprised, but his impression of Luo Fei was good—this young man had helped them solve cases more than once.
“Captain Yang, has the DNA and fingerprint match come out?” Luo Fei asked directly.
“The fingerprint doesn’t match Wu Yu,” Yang Su replied, “but the DNA from Wu Yu is identical to one of the samples collected at the scene. Right now, the captain is interrogating him. Come on, let’s go take a look.”

Outside the interrogation room, Yang Mei and the others were already there.
Inside, Wu Yu was handcuffed to a chair.
His face was pale, his hands trembling uncontrollably—it was clear he was terrified out of his mind.
Sitting across from him was Zhao Donglai, personally leading the interrogation.
When Yang Su brought Luo Fei over, he told Luo Fei to stay outside with Yang Mei and the others before entering the room himself with the report notebook.
The interrogation ended faster than expected.
It took Zhao Donglai less than five minutes to break him.
Wu Yu confessed everything.
Tang Youquan had been killed by them.
There were four people involved: Wu Yu, Zhou Xiaotiao, Ma Hu, and Huang Bin—all unemployed and drifting around all day.
That day, they had suddenly felt like going up the mountain for a drink, so they brought two cases of beer and some snacks to Walnut Mountain.

On the way, they passed Tang Youquan’s house. His dog barked loudly at them nonstop.
They found it annoying.
Zhou Xiaotiao even picked up a stick and hit the dog.
After that, they found a nice spot in the mountains, started eating snacks, drinking beer, and bragging casually.
Somehow, the conversation drifted toward ancient heroes—men who drank heavily, ate meat, and lived freely and boldly.
The more they talked, the more excited they became.
Ma Hu complained that drinking without meat felt pointless. If only they had meat, they could be like those legendary heroes.
Everyone agreed.
Then Zhou Xiaotiao suddenly suggested, “Didn’t that house have a dog? Let’s steal it and roast it.”
The idea instantly caught on.
So they went back.
The owner wasn’t home.
The dog barked again when it saw them.
This time, Ma Hu and Wu Yu swung wooden sticks and smashed the dog hard in the waist. The dog collapsed instantly.
They tied it up with its leash and took it away.

After handling the dog, they roasted it and drank beer, feeling extremely satisfied.
By around 4 p.m., they had finished the meat and the beer and decided to leave.
On their way back, they passed Tang Youquan’s house again.
This time, Tang Youquan had returned and discovered his dog was missing. He searched everywhere but couldn’t find it.
Seeing the four of them, he immediately asked if they had seen his dog.
Of course, they denied it.
But Zhou Xiaotiao was still playing with the dog leash.
The moment Tang Youquan saw it, he immediately realized what had happened. Furious, he demanded the truth and threatened to break their legs if they didn’t explain where the dog was.
Having drunk alcohol and still feeling the buzz, the four of them became reckless.
“What are you yelling for, old man?”
They admitted it directly.
“We killed your dog and roasted it!”
Tang Youquan exploded in rage.
He rushed forward and slapped Ma Hu hard across the face, cursing them as animals and saying they were worse than beasts.
That slap completely enraged them.
They tackled him to the ground.
Ma Hu even took off Tang Youquan’s shoe and slapped his face repeatedly with it.
Even so, Tang Youquan kept shouting insults—his words growing more vicious by the second.
Their anger escalated further.
They dragged Tang Youquan into the house.
Zhou Xiaotiao used the dog leash to tie it around his neck. They stripped off his clothes and pants, treating him like a dog—dragging him, even riding him, and whipping him violently with the leash.
But no matter how much they tortured him, Tang Youquan refused to break.
He kept cursing them the entire time.
Wu Yu had been sitting on a military cot, already drunk and dizzy, when somehow his hand landed on a rusted wrench…
