WHV | Chapter 4
by ᴅʀᴇᴀᴍʟᴇꜱꜱ_ᴅʀᴇᴀᴍIs He Physically Defective?
And the only flaw was that the thing triggering his pseudo-heat was not his pheromones.
Shi Ciyan held the little furnace in his arms and stayed in the bathroom for a few more minutes, estimating that Lin Yuchi’s pheromones outside had probably dispersed before he came out. Yu Wei’s shirt buttons had already been torn off by him, the collar hung wide open, and it was practically impossible to cover anything.
Shi Ciyan took one look, found a thin jacket, and wrapped him up tightly. Counting the time, Qiu Lei had already been out for ten minutes, so it was about time he came back. Before he returned, Shi Ciyan sent the driver a message.
Five or six minutes later, Qiu Lei came back to the dorm in a sweat, handed the inhibitor to Shi Ciyan, and dropped heavily into a chair, gasping for breath.
He had run all the way in this blazing heat and nearly lost his life halfway there.
“Thank you.” Shi Ciyan took the inhibitor, half-hugged Yu Wei with his back to Qiu Lei, and quickly gave him an injection.
“Ah… ngh…”
Yu Wei hurt so badly that he arched up, a pained whimper slipping from between his lips.
While soothing him, Shi Ciyan slowly pushed the medication into Yu Wei’s gland. The person in his arms gradually quieted down and finally passed out completely.
After the shot, he took a box of pheromone-blocking patches from the drawer and put them on him again.
Qiu Lei gulped down a bottle of water and finally caught his breath a little. Watching his movements, he thought it over and asked, “Are you a Beta too?”
Shi Ciyan could smell that Lin Yuchi had released pheromones, and he also knew Yu Wei had been affected by Lin Yuchi and entered pseudo-heat, which was why he needed the inhibitor. He had subconsciously assumed Shi Ciyan was an Alpha.
That was why he had not felt safe leaving Yu Wei alone with Shi Ciyan and, on the way downstairs to buy the inhibitor, had gone first to the duty room to find Yu Song and tell him to come back and keep an eye on his older brother. But the duty room was empty, and he did not know Yu Song’s phone number, so he could only rush to buy the inhibitor and come back as fast as possible.
He did not doubt Shi Ciyan’s character, but anyone who had taken a physiology class knew that Omega and Alpha pheromones were fatally tempting to each other. One wrong move, and they could lose all rationality, be driven to throw morality and law out the window.
All the way back, he had been worried that Yu Wei’s pheromones might affect Shi Ciyan and make him do something wrong. But Qiu Lei had never expected that when he returned, the two of them would be perfectly fine. And the strong Omega pheromone scent in the dorm was something even he, as a Beta, could not ignore.
Betas were already insensitive to pheromones. Yet now he could smell them, which only meant how thick the Omega pheromones in the dorm really were.
But in such an environment, Shi Ciyan, an Alpha, was actually showing no abnormal reaction at all.
Besides the fact that he was also a Beta, Qiu Lei could not think of any better explanation.
“Alpha.” Shi Ciyan turned sideways to block Qiu Lei’s line of sight, quickly straightened Yu Wei’s clothes, then bent down and carried him in a princess carry out of the dorm. “I’m taking him to the hospital. When Yu Song comes back, tell him that.”
After taking a few steps, he turned back again. “Remember to open the bathroom door and don’t close the dorm windows. Air out the smell.”
Qiu Lei watched the two of them walk away and thought for two seconds. Then a ridiculous idea flashed through his mind.
If Shi Ciyan was an Alpha and could still remain unmoved by Omega pheromones, did that mean he had some kind of physical defect?
…
When Shi Ciyan went downstairs, the driver had just arrived at the entrance. Seeing him come out, he immediately got out and opened the door for him.
“To City Center Hospital.”
It was the start of the school term, and the campus was packed with people. Traffic on the road was heavy, easy to get in but hard to get out, and the gate was especially crowded. The long line of cars looked like lazy snails, slowly inching toward the school entrance.
The driver glanced up at the rearview mirror out of boredom.
He would have been fine not looking, but at this glance, he saw Shi Ciyan in the back seat holding the unconscious Omega close in his arms, his movements extraordinarily gentle. When he sensed the driver’s gaze, he also looked up at the mirror.
Their eyes met in the mirror, and the driver hurriedly turned back around. The air-conditioning in the car was blasting, but sweat still trickled down his back in streams. The driver shivered, gripped the steering wheel tightly, sat up straight, and concentrated on driving.
It took a little over twenty minutes to get from Nanda to City Center Hospital, and the silence in the car along the way was so stifling it felt suffocating.
Then the ringtone of a call from the back seat suddenly broke the silence. Shi Ciyan paused, picked up Yu Wei’s phone, and answered it.
A man’s voice came through the receiver from the other end. “Young Master, there’s still a meeting this afternoon. We have to go.”
Shi Ciyan glanced at the phone screen. The note read Uncle Wang. “Hello, he is at City Center Hospital.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of a car engine revving came from the other end. “I’ll be there right away.”
The call was then cut off in a hurry, and Shi Ciyan put it away without caring. Just as they arrived at the hospital and settled Yu Wei in, the phone rang again, asking for the ward.
Wang Youguang jogged all the way to the ward. Seeing Yu Wei lying quietly on the bed and then Shi Ciyan beside it, he looked guarded.
“Young Master, what happened?”
“Pseudo-heat. I’ve already given him an inhibitor.”
After Shi Ciyan explained truthfully, the ward door was pushed open, and three or four doctors came in grandly.
“What is all this for?”
After entering pseudo-heat and getting an inhibitor, all he needed was a few days of observation. There was no need to make such a huge production out of it.
Besides, they even wanted to draw blood.
“I’m worried there may be other effects, so just to be safe, we’ll do a comprehensive blood test.”
Uncle Wang glanced back at Yu Wei’s pale face and stepped aside, no longer disturbing the doctors as they drew blood.
Yu Wei’s skin was very fair, and under that cool white complexion, the blue veins were clearly visible. The silver needle was long and thin, and just watching it prick into Yu Wei’s skin, he subconsciously reminded the doctor, “Young Master is an Omega. He is afraid of pain, so please be gentle.”
The doctor looked at him, then lowered his head and continued the injection.
“Doctor, you’re an Alpha, right? Why don’t you let an Omega or a female doctor do it?”
Yu Wei was afraid of pain. Alphas were rough and unrestrained, and Uncle Wang was still worried that a male Alpha would hurt Yu Wei.
The doctor looked up, his tone impatient. “Please don’t question my professionalism.”
“But…”
“Dr. Chen, be gentler when you draw the blood.” Shi Ciyan glanced at the place on his chest where a name tag should have been, but it was empty.
“Got it.” Dr. Chen lowered his head and rolled his eyes where no one could see. He had performed three surgeries yesterday and was supposed to be resting today. He had been pulled out of bed at home to come to the hospital just to draw a tube of blood.
He was a chief surgeon, for heaven’s sake, and now he had been reduced to drawing blood for a patient and getting nitpicked by the family.
Chen Ling cast an irritated glance at the Omega on the bed. He had seen countless Omegas, and compared with the others he had seen, this one was just a little whiter, a little prettier, with an air of being spoiled and pampered. There did not seem to be any other merits.
He had not expected Shi Ciyan to be into this kind.
After drawing the blood, he casually said a few harmless words to soothe the anxious Wang Youguang, then left. On his way out, he glanced at Shi Ciyan and closed the ward door.
“I’m going to the washroom.”
Shi Ciyan waited a few minutes, found an excuse, and went straight to Chen Ling’s office to look for him.
Two minutes after Shi Ciyan left, Yu Song panted as he pushed open the ward door, then rushed to the bedside, tears shimmering in his eyes.
He had just finished writing his self-criticism in the counselor’s office and come back, only to hear Qiu Lei say that Yu Wei had been sent to the hospital. He had wanted to rocket over here.
Now that he saw him lying in the hospital bed, Yu Song’s eyes grew slightly wet. Since he could remember, aside from physicals, his older brother had never been to a hospital. Let alone being sick or injured.
Today, because of him and Lin Yuchi, Yu Wei was lying in a hospital bed. Yu Song was almost furious to tears.
“The young master isn’t badly hurt. Once he wakes up, he’ll just need to go back and rest for two days.” Wang Youguang comforted him. “But you really have to thank your Beta roommate. He gave the young master an inhibitor in time, or the consequences would have been unthinkable.”
As soon as he mentioned him, there he was. Right after Wang Youguang finished speaking, Shi Ciyan came back and saw Yu Song by the bedside. He paused in his steps.
“You got blood drawn too?” Wang Youguang asked, turning around when he heard the voice and seeing the boy approaching.
Shi Ciyan was wearing a short-sleeved shirt. A small puncture mark on his arm was bleeding now, and it stood out vividly against his fair skin.
Shi Ciyan followed Wang Youguang’s gaze and looked down, then took a tissue to wipe away the bloodstain. “Maybe I scratched it on something.”
Yu Wei had just had blood drawn not long ago, and when he saw blood on the other’s arm, he subconsciously assumed that was also from blood collection, that the puncture had started bleeding. Hearing his explanation, he nodded and did not pay it further mind.
Yu Wei had been given an inhibitor, and an hour later he woke up leisurely. He blankly scanned the few people gathered around his bed and blinked.
“Ge, are you okay, ge…” Yu Song anxiously shoved his face into Yu Wei’s field of view, wailing like a ghost. Anyone hearing him would think someone had died.
“Yu Song…” Yu Wei pushed his face away and gritted out, “How many times have I told you these past few days? Don’t fight at school, don’t fight at school. And you? First day of school, first time meeting, and you already started a conflict.”
And it was the main lead, too.
The more Yu Wei spoke, the angrier he got. If he had any strength at all, he would have jumped up and beaten Yu Song himself.
“He deserved it.” Yu Song still did not think he was wrong. “I regret not hitting harder. I should’ve torn his mouth apart. That nose was so sharp and he doesn’t go be a police dog, yet that bastard had the nerve to talk nonsense in front of me. He deserved it. All Alphas are the same, a bunch of bastards.”
Shi Ciyan, who had been lumped in with them: “…”
Yu Wei had already been given an inhibitor, so he did not need to stay in the hospital. Not long after waking up, once it was confirmed there was nothing serious, he was discharged. Yu Wei first saw them out at the school gate.
After getting out of the car, Yu Song clung to Yu Wei, his face full of reluctance.
“Classes start next week, Ge. If you have time, you have to come see me.”
Nanda was far from the city, and the round trip took half an hour. When they had classes, they could not stay overnight outside at night, so there was no way to go home. They could only let Yu Wei come see him more.
Yu Wei was getting irritated from being pestered, so he agreed, “Fine. If I have time, I’ll definitely come see you. And you are not allowed to fight with people again.”
Only after getting his promise did Yu Song reluctantly leave with Shi Ciyan.
By now it was already dark, and the evening wind rustled the big trees, leaves whispering in clusters.
Shi Ciyan looked back toward the gate. It was empty, and the car had already driven away.
“Thanks for today.” After walking for a while, Yu Song suddenly spoke, his tone a little awkward. “Although I don’t like my brother being nice to you, you took my brother to the hospital. I really want to thank you.”
Shi Ciyan said casually, “It’s nothing.”
Yu Song said, “If you ever need anything in the future, just come to me. I think you’re pretty good. I’m set on making you this friend.”
Shi Ciyan smiled but said nothing. By now, Yu Song was already treating him like one of his own.
“Honestly, I really hate Alphas. Especially ever since my brother differentiated into an Omega. You know the guy with glasses in our dorm, is he an Alpha or a Beta?”
“Qiu Lei, Beta.”
“Then there’s only one Alpha in our dorm to watch out for, Lin Yuchi.” Talking about Lin Yuchi, Yu Song curled his lip in disdain. “Alphas are all beasts. I really hope they all die off, then Omegas won’t be in danger anymore.”
Shi Ciyan could not even smile anymore. “Are you discriminating against gender?”
“No, I’m only discriminating against scum who are moody, who release pheromones everywhere to suppress other people, and who hurt innocent Omegas.”
Shi Ciyan: “…”
He might as well have just said Lin Yuchi’s name directly.
