    Privacy Policy — Moonwhale Cove

    Last updated: 31 May 2026

Moonwhale Cove (“the App”, “we”, “us”) is a reading and translation app. We care
about your privacy and we keep data collection to a minimum. This policy explains
what the App does and does not collect.

    Summary
    – We do not run analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
    – Your books, reading progress, glossaries, and settings are stored on your
device, and — only if you enable it — in your own iCloud account.
    – We do not operate servers that store your library or personal content.
    – If you use AI translation, your text is sent directly from your device to the
AI provider you choose, using an API key you supply.

    Information stored on your device
The following stays on your device (and in your iCloud if you enable backup):
    – Imported books and chapters, translations, glossaries, and reading progress
    – App settings, themes, reading statistics, and favourites
    – Your display name and optional profile photo
    – API keys and account tokens, stored securely in the iOS Keychain

We cannot see this information. It is not transmitted to us.

    Sign-in
    The App offers optional sign-in:
    – Sign in with Apple — handled by Apple. We receive only an anonymous user
identifier (and, if you choose to share it, your name). We do not receive your
    Apple password.
    – Discord — if you link Discord, we use Discord’s OAuth to obtain your Discord
username and an access token, stored only on your device.
    – You may also use the App as a Guest, with no account.

AI translation (optional, “bring your own key”)
If you use AI features, you provide your own API key for a third-party provider
(such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google). When you translate or analyse text, that
text and your key are sent directly from your device to that provider. Your
use of those providers is governed by their privacy policies and terms. We do
not receive, store, or proxy that content.

    iCloud
If you enable iCloud backup/sync, your library is stored in your iCloud
account under Apple’s privacy terms. You can turn this off at any time in the App
    or in iOS Settings.

    Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We
do not receive your payment details. Apple provides us only with the information
needed to deliver your purchase (e.g. subscription status).

    Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data
    from them.

    Data deletion
Because your data lives on your device and your iCloud, you can delete it at any
time by deleting your books, signing out, or removing the App. To remove an
iCloud backup, disable iCloud for the App in iOS Settings.

    Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new
    “Last updated” date.
