WHV | Chapter 2

Shi Ciyan’s gaze skimmed over the back of his neck, and the corner of his mouth hooked slightly. He didn’t refuse Yu Wei’s kind offer. He handed over the small box packed with a few changes of clothes, while he carried the big one himself.

The stairwell was narrow. It wasn’t convenient for both of them to carry boxes and walk side by side, so Shi Ciyan deliberately fell two steps behind him and followed slowly after Yu Wei.

Yu Wei had dressed formally today, in black slacks and a white shirt. The hem had been secured with shirt stays and tucked into his pants, cinching in a slender waist that looked like it could be circled with one arm. His lower body was wrapped in suit pants, showing off a perfect waist-to-hip ratio, and his legs looked even longer.

Shi Ciyan took in every bit of it.

They went back to 508 one after the other. The dorm had the air conditioning on, but there was still no one inside. Just those few steps had left Yu Wei hot and out of breath. After closing the door, he used his collar to fan himself for a little more cool air. With the movement, the collar brushed his skin and made it itch slightly. Yu Wei casually scratched twice through his clothes, then felt the barrier patch on his nape and paused for two seconds. He still wasn’t used to having something stuck to his skin.

He had only come into this body three days ago, and he couldn’t even remember how many times Uncle Wang had told him to keep his barrier patch on properly. Yu Wei didn’t know how Uncle Wang could tell, but as long as he didn’t wear it, Uncle Wang would notice right away and force him to put it on.

Yu Wei fanned himself for a while, secretly watching to see whether Shi Ciyan needed any help, while also fulfilling the responsibility of an older brother by helping Yu Song put his things away.

The protagonist had one poor family and one rich family. Yu Song, relying on his money, bullied the poor one. After the two leads got together, the rich one stood up for the poor one and directly took down the entire Yu family.

He just didn’t know whether Shi Ciyan was the poor one or the rich one.

While Yu Wei was tidying Yu Song’s desk, he glanced twice at Shi Ciyan’s clothes. Just an ordinary T-shirt and pants. He couldn’t tell anything from that.

Yu Wei had no choice but to let it go. Since the protagonist had already been found, the rest wasn’t urgent.

After finishing Yu Song’s desk, Yu Wei took apart his bedsheet and duvet cover.

The bedding had been brought by the students themselves. In the first semester of freshman year, the school didn’t allow new students to live off campus and forced them to stay in the dorms. For Yu Wei, the dorm environment was already top-tier, but it was a hardship for Yu Song, who had grown up with a golden spoon in his mouth. Yu Song had been shoved into the school against his will. Yu’s father and mother really didn’t have the face to ask the school for a special exception and let Yu Song live outside. But they had already bought him a place across from the school, and after the first semester of freshman year, they would let him move out.

So for these six months, he had to obediently live in the dorm. The bedding they brought all had to be handled by themselves. Yu Wei thought that big young master probably wouldn’t know how to do this kind of work, so he took off his shoes and climbed onto the bed to help him get it done.

His parents had died early in his last life, so he had already learned these skills long ago.

He skillfully finished putting the bedding on and climbed back down. Shi Ciyan was also taking apart the sheets and duvet cover he had brought.

“Can you do it? If not, I can help you.”

Yu Wei offered to help him change it. Shi Ciyan smiled a little. “Then I’ll have to trouble you.”

“Not at all.”

His life and the rest of his prosperous future were in Yu Wei’s hands. How could he say it was trouble?

Yu Wei nimbly climbed onto Shi Ciyan’s bed, knelt by the edge, and efficiently put on the duvet cover.

He was especially good at it. In just a few motions, he finished, grabbed one corner, shook it out, and spread it over the bed. Only then did he notice that the far corner wasn’t quite smooth. Yu Wei knelt by the bed, supported himself with one hand on the mattress, and crawled over to smooth it out.

After Shi Ciyan finished tidying his desk, he stood below and looked up. Yu Wei was kneeling on the bed, his back slightly arched, his hips raised a little. The slacks stretched smooth and close to his body, outlining a clear shape.

Shi Ciyan’s expression didn’t change. He stared at Yu Wei’s back and silently repeated the name twice in his mind. An Omega had first released pheromones in front of him, and now he was sitting on his bed in this position. It was hard not to let the imagination run wild.

“It’s done.”

After smoothing it out, Yu Wei clapped his hands and looked back down at Shi Ciyan from above, his tone especially proud. “I made it nice and neat for you.”

“Thank you,” Shi Ciyan said with a smile as he stood in front of the ladder and looked up.

After finishing, Yu Wei didn’t linger. He faced away from him and climbed down while holding onto the ladder. When he stepped onto the last rung, his foot suddenly slipped. Just as Yu Wei thought he was about to miss his footing, a pair of hands wrapped around his waist from behind, his whole body pressed close against Yu Wei’s back and caught him steadily. Then a warm breath brushed his ear, and the boy’s voice was slightly hoarse. “Be careful.”

Shi Ciyan’s chest was pressed close to Yu Wei’s back. Waves of heat spread from where the two of them touched, followed by a sweet, fruity scent.

Yu Wei had really been startled just now. After he steadied himself on the floor, he turned back to look at the person behind him and patted his chest in lingering shock. “You reacted so fast. You scared me half to death.”

The words had barely fallen when the tightly closed dorm door was suddenly pushed open. A round-faced boy wearing black-rimmed glasses came in. The moment he saw them, his eyes widened and he stood in the doorway, looking like he wanted to say something but couldn’t.

“Ah, you guys… should I come back later…”

“No, no, it’s not what you think.” Yu Wei waved his hands and shook his head, denying it as hard as he could. But then he remembered he was still in Shi Ciyan’s arms, so he quickly broke free and explained, “I just slipped when I was coming down the ladder, and he helped me.”

The boy with glasses blinked dumbly and let out an “oh.”

The boy with glasses was the first person to arrive in 508, so his bedding was already neatly arranged. Yu Wei walked over and struck up a conversation on his own initiative. “My name is Yu Wei. I’m the older brother of the guy in bed four.”

The boy with glasses was called Qiu Lei. He was local, so he had arrived early. He looked ordinary, and with those thick glasses on, he seemed even more awkward.

Yu Wei guessed he was an NPC, maybe even someone who didn’t have a name in the book. Feeling a bit of sympathy for someone in the same boat, Yu Wei chatted with him for a while. Seeing that it was getting late and Yu Song still hadn’t come back, he ended the conversation. Before leaving, he thought about it and added Qiu Lei on WeChat.

“Yu Song has a pretty bad temper. If he has a conflict with someone at school and causes trouble, you have to send me a WeChat message or call me.”

Although he had been telling Yu Song these past few days not to cause trouble at school, there was no guarantee that this rich young master wouldn’t get a little unhappy and pick on someone, offending the protagonist without him knowing. Just in case, Yu Song still needed someone around who could tip him off at any time. Qiu Lei, as another NPC, was perfect.

After he finished exchanging contact information, just as he was about to leave, Shi Ciyan called him back.

“Wait a second.” Yu Wei saw him take out a tissue and walk toward him. “There’s something on your neck. I’ll wipe it off for you.”

Yu Wei stood there blankly and let him wipe it away. The tissue brushed his neck and brought with it a faint itch.

Shi Ciyan’s fingertips, whether intentionally or not, pressed at the back of his neck. A wave of tingling numbness made his body twitch unconsciously, and his legs went weak for no reason. Yet Shi Ciyan seemed completely unaware. He withdrew his hand and said, “All done.”

Yu Wei was a little uncomfortable. He felt that the patch-like thing on the back of his neck had drawn closer to his skin, its presence becoming stronger and stronger. Yu Wei fought down the urge to scratch it off, smiled at Shi Ciyan, and said goodbye before leaving.

Shi Ciyan watched him go. When the dorm door closed again, he turned his thoughtful gaze toward Qiu Lei, who was tidying the desk.

“You’re a beta.”

Qiu Lei nodded in confusion. He was just about to ask what was going on when Shi Ciyan had already turned back to his seat and gone back to his own business. It was as if he had only asked to confirm it.

Alpha and Beta lived together in this dorm building. Omegas lived in a separate building.

After Shi Ciyan finished packing his things, he didn’t speak to Qiu Lei again. He went out and downstairs to buy something.

He had just reached the dorm building entrance when he ran into Yu Wei and another boy.

Yu Wei called out to him.

“This is my younger brother, Yu Song. He’s in the same dorm as you.” Then he turned to Yu Song beside him and introduced, “This is Shi Ciyan, the one I just told you about. You have to get along with him properly.”

Yu Wei had already stood at the door praising Shi Ciyan for a long time. Yu Song was already unhappy, and now that he saw the real person, he couldn’t even be bothered to look at him directly. He turned his head away and curled his lip in disdain. “Oh.”

Yu Wei was so angry at his lack of ambition that he glared at him hard, then turned back to Shi Ciyan and asked, “Where are you going?”

“To the store, to buy hangers. I forgot to bring them.”

Hangers?

Yu Wei looked at the hangers in Yu Song’s arms, said nothing, and took most of them out, stuffing them into his hands. “Take these. If you go to the store now, there’ll be too many people, and this weather is too hot. It’d be too much trouble. Yu Song doesn’t have many clothes, so he won’t need that many. You can use them.”

Shi Ciyan looked at the hangers shoved into his hands, then carefully glanced at Yu Song, and moved a little closer to Yu Wei in hesitation. “This… is he upset? Maybe forget it…”

“Are you unhappy?” Yu Wei glared at Yu Song. “He naturally has a bad face. Don’t mind it.”

Yu Song: “…?”

He had stood in the unsheltered supermarket line for half an hour to buy those. Wasn’t he the one suffering? Shi Ciyan didn’t have three heads and six arms. Why was his brother praising him all the time, speaking to him so gently, and even giving away his things to someone he had known for less than half a day?

Yu Song was full of resentment toward Shi Ciyan, but with his older brother there, he could only swallow it down. Taking advantage of Yu Wei not paying attention, he bared his teeth at Shi Ciyan in a silent warning to stay farther away from Yu Wei.

Yu Wei didn’t have much time to begin with, and he still had to go back for a meeting. He kept it brief, reminding Yu Wei over and over again to get along with Shi Ciyan properly before saying goodbye to the two of them and leaving.

After he walked away, Shi Ciyan held the hangers and looked at Yu Song. “These hangers…”

“My brother told me to give them to you, so just take them.” Yu Song snorted and walked around him upstairs. Shi Ciyan had come downstairs for the hangers in the first place. Now that he had something for emergencies, he turned around and went into the elevator before the door closed.

Upstairs

Just after Shi Ciyan left, the dorm door was pushed open again. Qiu Lei thought it was Shi Ciyan coming back from downstairs. “Didn’t you go buy something? Why are you bac…”

The person who came in was not Shi Ciyan, but a stranger. He looked fierce, and the moment he entered, his brows were already tightly furrowed. His sharp gaze swept around the room before finally landing on Qiu Lei.

That person looked at him from head to toe with obvious disgust. “You’re a beta?”

Qiu Lei: “…?” Why were two people asking him whether he was a beta?

Qiu Lei didn’t dare speak. He just nodded to answer.

The boy let out a mocking laugh, his tone nasty. “No wonder. There’s a whole room full of Omega pheromones, and you’re sitting there like nothing’s wrong.”

Omega pheromones?

Qiu Lei really was a Beta and not sensitive to pheromones, but this building only had Alphas and Betas. How could there possibly be Omega pheromones in their dorm?

Besides, he had been the first one to arrive at the dorm, and he had been the first one to receive the key and open it. The only people who came in after him were Shi Ciyan and Yu Wei. Shi Ciyan shared a dorm with them, so he couldn’t be the Omega. That meant the Omega could only be Yu Wei.

After figuring it out, Qiu Lei explained softly, “It should be one of our roommates’ older brothers.”

“So slutty. Leaving such a strong pheromone smell in a dorm full of Alphas and Betas, just asking to get f***ed…”

The words had barely fallen when the dorm door was kicked open. Before Lin Yuchi even had time to turn around, a figure lunged at him, jumped onto his back, and wrapped one arm brutally around Lin Yuchi’s neck while the hanger in his hand swung straight at his head.

“I f***ing, who are you calling slutty? Who are you calling asking to get f***ed? Say that again in front of me if you’ve got the balls.”
