UD | Chapter 11 – Old Master Guan Sneaks Out to Find His First Love
by North_Sky“That girl is really pitiful. To end up with a father like that…”
Once the elevator doors closed, Li Yingzhe couldn’t help but complain.
A father who abandoned his young daughter and his hardworking father just to marry into a wealthy family—he was pure scum.
Tang Chengyun silently agreed in his heart.
The elevator stopped midway and two familiar faces stepped in.
“Officer Tang?”
“Cousin, what are you doing here?!”
A voice from inside the elevator came almost at the same time as another.
Both sides looked at each other in surprise.
“You two know each other?”
“Doctor Hao,” Tang Chengyun nodded at Hao Jiamu, then turned to the other man. “What about you?”
Guan Qiangyu stiffened the moment he saw his cousin. He had been afraid of this older, stricter relative since childhood.
“I… I came with Grandpa. He accidentally fell and got hospitalized here.”
As soon as he said it, his face went pale.
Damn it.
Why did he just say that?!
His mouth was too fast!
Tang Chengyun’s expression instantly changed.
His elderly grandfather—who was supposed to be resting at home—had secretly followed this unreliable grandson across provinces to Dongning.
And now he was hospitalized.
Without telling him.
Good.
Very good.
Outside the ward, Li Yingzhe waited while the old master slept inside.
Guan Qiangyu stood with his head lowered like a scolded child.
“Grandpa said he wants to find his first love, but my parents wouldn’t let him leave the house… so I secretly brought him out.”
His voice was heavy with guilt.
“We didn’t expect him to fall on the way. The surgery is done, and the doctor said there’s no major issue.”
Hao Jiamu added, “His head injury is minor, but he has several underlying conditions. Long-distance travel is not recommended.”
He glanced toward the ward.
Seventy or eighty years old… still running off to find a first love. The old man was surprisingly romantic.
“I’ll take him back once he’s better,” Guan Qiangyu muttered.
Then he added quickly, “Brother, when Grandpa wakes up, don’t scold him. He’s already very sad.”
Tang Chengyun exhaled deeply.
“My mother will be here to take care of him.”
“No—please don’t call Auntie!” Guan Qiangyu panicked. “We already hired a nurse. I can take care of him!”
“No.” Tang Chengyun shot him a look. “If she finds out late, she’ll be even angrier.”
Guan Qiangyu shrank his neck.
He knew exactly what that meant.
His aunt was terrifying.
The kind of terrifying that even an old man couldn’t escape.
After confirming the situation, they left.
As they exited the ward, Tang Chengyun suddenly asked, “The sixth floor patient—Rong Zhengming—is that your case?”
Hao Jiamu nodded. “Yes. The car accident case you’re investigating?”
Li Yingzhe leaned in.
“I remember his report said he was likely to be paralyzed. But he looks fine now.”
Hao Jiamu smiled faintly.
“That’s what’s strange. His recovery is far beyond normal.”
They had expected the worst—either permanent paralysis or severe neurological damage.
But instead, the old man was already alert, conscious, and recovering at a shocking speed.
“At this rate, he might be walking soon.”
Li Yingzhe frowned. “Maybe it’s genetic? His granddaughter survived a terrible crash too, only minor injuries.”
Hao Jiamu nodded. “Probably. The whole family seems unusually resilient.”
Li Yingzhe blinked. “You mean… Rong Leying?”
“That’s the name. No other family members came.”
They parted ways on the same floor.
As Tang Chengyun stepped out of the elevator, two figures passed through the stairwell entrance.
A man and a woman.
And between them… an empty space.
“Mom, is that master really here?” the woman whispered.
“Yes, he’s inside,” a small voice answered from beside them.
It was the boy.
The deceased child’s father and mother.
Walking together, talking to empty air.
Hao Jiamu glanced at them, then away, his expression complicated.
Another pair mentally broken by grief.
Inside the elevator, Li Yingzhe suddenly spoke.
“Aren’t those the parents of the hotel falling-death kid?”
“They are,” Tang Chengyun said quietly.
Then he frowned slightly.
Something about that scene felt… off.
At the first floor, a woman and her son entered the elevator.
“Mom, did Aunt Zhou reply? Will that apartment be rented?”
“Yes. She agreed. Cheap rent for that girl caring for her grandfather.”
The elevator doors closed.
Tang Chengyun paused and looked back.
“Boss? Did you forget something?”
“No.” He turned away. “Let’s go.”
And they left for the police station.
On the way, he called his parents about the old master’s situation in Dongning.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the hospital corridors…
Fate quietly continued to twist its threads.
And none of them noticed how many “coincidences” were beginning to connect.
