TYH-DCI | Chapter 22 – Dad, Come Break Their Legs!
by North_SkyA call was placed directly to the Shenzhen Municipal Government—specifically, the mayor’s office.
Looking at the ringing phone on his desk, Wang Zhenhua’s brows tightened.
Ordinary calls could never reach this line. If it was ringing here, something serious had happened.
With a solemn expression, he straightened in his chair and picked up the phone.
“Hello, this is Wang Zhenhua.”
“Dad, it’s me. Something’s happened on my side.”
Hearing his daughter’s voice, Wang Shengnan finally felt the panic in her chest ease slightly.
Even though she tried her best to stay calm, her trembling voice and shaking hands betrayed her completely.
Wang Zhenhua was already shocked to receive her call—but hearing that she was in trouble made him instantly stand up.
“What? What happened to you? Shengnan, don’t be afraid. Dad is here.”
His daughter had always been extremely sensible. She would never casually call him at his workplace.
That alone was enough to make him realize how serious things were.
Sensing her fear, he quickly reassured her:
“Shengnan, the fact that you can call me means you’re still safe. Since you’re safe right now, don’t panic. No matter what happens, Dad will handle it.”
Hearing that, Wang Shengnan nearly broke down in tears—but she forced herself to hold back.
“Dad… I ran into human traffickers on the train. We tried to rescue the children and got into a fight with them. They had weapons.”
“One of the women I met on the train was injured while saving me. She’s in the hospital now, but she’s out of danger.”
Hearing that his daughter was unharmed, Wang Zhenhua finally let out a long breath of relief.
“Where are you now? Have those people been controlled?”
“We’re at the county people’s hospital. The traffickers have all been arrested. Dad… can you help me send some money? We pooled everything we had, but I’m not sure it’s enough.”
Both Wang Shengnan and Xi’er had grown up in comfortable households and were the only daughters in their families. They had never lacked money in their lives.
But they also didn’t realize that the 246.5 yuan they had gathered was already a considerable sum for most people.
Wang Zhenhua immediately understood what his daughter was really asking for.
Some things couldn’t be said directly over the phone, so he replied in a low voice:
“Don’t worry, I understand. I’ll arrange for someone to send the money over as soon as possible. Just stay there and be safe.”
“As for your assignment to the countryside, don’t rush. I’ll speak to the relevant departments. Wait until the injured girl recovers before reporting in. Leave the rest to me.”
After a brief pause, he added:
“If possible, I’ll try to arrange for you to be placed together with that girl who saved you.”
“And the other two people as well—one named Li Zhaodi, and one named Dongfang Xi’er. You’re all heading to Heilongjiang Province for the rural assignment, right?”
“Dongfang Xi’er?” he repeated.
“Yes, Dongfang Xi’er.”
Though he didn’t show it, a thought flashed through Wang Zhenhua’s mind: That Dongfang family?
He did not ask further.
“Alright, I understand. Stay safe. Call me immediately if anything comes up.”
After hanging up, Wang Zhenhua sat in silence for a moment, then made three consecutive phone calls.
Meanwhile, Xi’er had just finished paying the hospital fees when she came out—she was also preparing to call home.
Seeing Wang Shengnan, she waved excitedly.
“You’re also here to make a call?”
Wang Shengnan nodded. “Yes. Can you wait for me for a bit? I’m a little scared to be alone.”
Xi’er looked at her pitifully, and Wang Shengnan agreed immediately.
She stepped a little aside—not far enough to lose sight of her, but far enough not to overhear her conversation.
Xi’er gratefully smiled at her and dialed her father’s number.
In a large office, a row of men in military-green uniforms stood upright.
A middle-aged man in his fifties was angrily reprimanding them.
Suddenly, the office phone rang.
He paused, then continued sharply:
“Remember this: your fists are for enemies, not for your own people! If this happens again, you’ll all be locked in solitary confinement for half a month! Now get out!”
Only then did he pick up the phone.
His voice still carried lingering anger.
“Hello. This is Dongfang Fu.”
Xi’er, however, did not notice his tone at all. The moment the call connected, she started sobbing:
“Dad… it’s me… I almost got beaten to death…”
She had originally only planned to fake a couple of cries—but the moment she thought of Jiang Lai lying in a hospital bed, she truly broke down.
She ended up crying so hard she could barely breathe.
On the other end, Dongfang Fu’s expression changed instantly.
Bang!
His palm slammed hard onto the wooden desk.
“Xi’er, don’t cry. Tell me slowly—who hit you? Who bullied you? I’ll go kill them myself!”
His temper had always been explosive, and he had spoiled his daughter like the apple of his eye since childhood.
If it weren’t for gossip from people in the compound, she would never have been sent to the countryside to suffer.
Every time he thought about it, he felt deeply guilty.
Now hearing her crying like this over the phone, his heart burned with rage.
Anyone who dared touch his daughter was courting death.
Xi’er continued crying uncontrollably. On the side, Wang Shengnan quickly stepped in to comfort her.
She gently patted Xi’er’s back.
“Don’t be afraid, I’m here. It’s okay now. I already called home. Jiang Lai is also safe—she’s been moved to a ward.”
Only then did Xi’er gradually calm down.
After she steadied herself, Wang Shengnan stepped away again to give her privacy.
Dongfang Fu, having heard the voice earlier, asked again:
“Xi’er, who was that just now? Tell me exactly what happened.”
Sniffling, Xi’er wiped her tears with her sleeve and began to explain.
“I met three friends on the train. We’re all going to Heilongjiang as educated youth.”
“Last night we discovered there were human traffickers on the train. Today, two of them tried to rescue the children and fought the traffickers… and got badly injured.”
“There was so much blood… it wouldn’t stop… I was terrified, Dad…”
“The injured one is really kind. Her name is Jiang Lai—she was the one who discovered the traffickers.”
Her voice sharpened with emotion again.
“Dad, come break their legs! They’re too evil—how can they kidnap children and use knives to hurt people?!”
