One afternoon, as soon as the bell rang, students quickly got up and rushed toward the cafeteria.

He Tang also took out her meal card and blended into the crowd heading to the cafeteria. But just as she reached the stairwell, she was blocked.

He Tang looked up and saw a boy of ordinary appearance standing in front of her, with two lackeys behind him.

She shifted her direction to step around him, but the boy raised his arm, blocking her way.

So he was indeed looking for her. He Tang stopped, calmly looked at the three people in front of her, and asked coldly, “Who are you?”

There were many students coming and going around them. Li Chang, who had been sending roses for days, felt embarrassed. His tone carried a hint of arrogance. “Li Chang!”

He Tang thought for a moment, finally recalling the roses in the trash can from her memory, and her tone grew impatient. “Do you need something?”

Li Chang glanced at the onlookers, finally remembered his purpose, and smirked. “I’m inviting you to lunch.”

    “No, thanks.”

Li Chang’s expression darkened, and his tone turned rude. “He Tang, don’t reject a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit! I, Li Chang, am inviting you to lunch because I think highly of you. Don’t be ungrateful!”

“Mm.” He Tang couldn’t be bothered with him and stepped to leave. Li Chang panicked, grabbed her wrist, and urged, “He Tang, have you decided? Are you going to be with me or not?”

“No.” He Tang fiercely shook off Li Chang’s hand. “I’m not interested in you at all.”

Li Chang was furious inside, but standing right in front of He Tang, looking at her fair, delicate face with her slightly furrowed brows and lightly pursed cherry-red lips, her eyes clearly impatient yet impossibly alluring, it made his heart itch.

Li Chang gritted his molars, thinking that beauties indeed needed to be coaxed. He’d endure it for now, and once he had her, he’d make her cry.

With that thought, Li Chang put on a different expression and clung to He Tang shamelessly all the way to the cafeteria.

Li Chang had always been fickle. Whenever he set his sights on someone, he would pursue them ostentatiously. Once he grew tired of them, he would heartlessly dump them. Though ordinary-looking, he had many tricks up his sleeve, came from a wealthy family, and was willing to throw money and time around to fake a devoted image. Quite a few young girls had been fooled by him, and everyone just watched, not daring to speak up.

He Tang was utterly annoyed by him. She got her food and found a seat surrounded by empty spots, but as soon as she sat down, Li Chang chased away the people around her.

“Move, move. Don’t bother me and my girlfriend while we eat!”

Everyone around was startled but obediently got up and gave their seats to Li Chang and his crew. Then they nervously stepped aside, secretly took photos, and uploaded them to the campus forum with an eye-catching title: “Shocking! Li Chang’s Next Dumped Girlfriend: He Tang!”

Students immediately started building high-rise threads, heatedly discussing how long He Tang, whose family had just gone bankrupt and was desperately short of money, would last. Some even started placing bets.

[Within a week, Li Chang will definitely win her over. I heard her family owes over 20 million, and her parents are scared and have run off, hahaha!]

[Definitely. A rich girl like He Tang won’t be able to endure a hard life. She’ll definitely latch onto Li Chang!]

[The person above is so vicious. As a girl, I think someone like Li Chang is truly disgusting. He’s taking advantage of her vulnerability!]

[Taking advantage? If the girl doesn’t agree, can he take advantage? In the end, it’s you girls who are too gold-digging!]

Just as the discussion was heating up, Li Chang set his tray down and prepared to sit. But before his rear end could touch the seat, He Tang kicked his chair away, her tone extremely unfriendly. “Are you done or not?”

With a loud crash, the chair hit the table leg, and the surroundings went silent.

“He Tang!” Li Chang gritted his teeth and glared fiercely at He Tang.

“I made myself very clear. I’m not interested in you. What were you saying just now? Is your IQ too low to understand human language?” He Tang showed no fear at all.

Li Chang clenched his left fist, holding the tray in his right hand. Furious, he slammed the tray onto the table with a loud bang.

“What are you doing, student!” A security guard heard the commotion and saw a boy glaring viciously at a delicate-looking girl. He immediately stepped forward and stood in front of He Tang.

The food in front of He Tang was already messy. She stood up and walked straight toward the tray return station. Before leaving, she cast a cold glance at Li Chang, as if looking at a rabid dog. “I’ve heard about your exploits. Show some respect to women!”

With that, she put away her tray and walked away, leaving Li Chang standing there with a livid expression.

No one had expected things to turn out this way. In the past, Li Chang always targeted soft, timid girls—most of them were weak and dared not resist. Under Li Chang’s coercion and cajoling, very few didn’t take the bait.

But no one had ever dared to humiliate Li Chang like this.

A flash of cruelty appeared in Li Chang’s eyes as he stared fixedly at He Tang’s retreating figure, clenching his teeth.

He Tang walked out of the cafeteria and decided to buy some bread at the supermarket to tide her over. She hadn’t taken more than a few steps when a girl ran up to her.

He Tang stopped and looked at the girl, whose face was slightly flushed, waiting for her to speak.

“Here, have this to eat.” The girl shoved the bread and milk in her hands into He Tang’s, pressed her lips together, and said, “I was fooled by him before. Don’t let him fool you.” Then she immediately ran off.

He Tang looked at the bread in her hands. A few seconds later, the corners of her lips finally curled up slightly, and she continued walking toward the classroom.

Meanwhile, the campus forum also exploded.

[Isn’t He Tang going too far? Why kick the chair for no reason?]

[Li Chang was the one who provoked He Tang first. Don’t you guys know Li Chang? He’s notoriously ill-intentioned.]

[But Li Chang was just trying to pursue her. If you don’t like him, just reject him. In public, He Tang made him lose so much face.]

[Li Chang was the one who told others that He Tang was his girlfriend. Who wouldn’t be angry? If it were me, I’d want to hit him too!]

[Li Chang has never been a good person. How many girls has he bullied? He Tang was right to scold him!]

[I also think He Tang isn’t at fault. Li Chang has been disgusting for a long time.]

[The person above, if you dare, don’t post anonymously. Our Brother Chang wants to see who thinks he’s wrong. How about we discuss it face to face?]

The cafeteria incident quickly spread throughout No.1 High School, making Li Chang feel extremely humiliated.

What was He Tang so arrogant about? Did she think that, given her current situation, she could find a better man than him? She was just someone burdened with a pile of debt. Relying on her good looks, she dared to embarrass him. How utterly ungrateful.

Frustrated and unwilling to let it go, Li Chang called two of his friends and prepared to block He Tang again.

Since the soft approach didn’t work, he’d try the hard one.

After school on Friday afternoon, Li Chang, accompanied by his two friends, followed He Tang all the way to a path by the school’s small grove and finally decided to make his move.

This path was very secluded due to the cover of the trees. Li Chang, who had originally planned to strike outside the school, looked around and, seeing no other students, curled his lips into a malicious smile and walked up to He Tang.

“He Tang,” Li Chang said, his tone laced with impropriety.

He Tang looked up at the sound of his voice, blinked slowly, and then, as if she hadn’t seen anyone, continued walking forward.

Li Chang instantly flew into a rage. “The hell are you acting so high and mighty for? Your family went bankrupt, don’t you get it? If you agree to be with me, I can give you what you want. If you don’t agree, I’ll—”

    “You’ll what?”

“I’ll make sure you regret it!” Li Chang gritted his teeth.

He Tang narrowed her eyes slightly and looked Li Chang up and down.

He was about 1.7 meters tall, with wide, round eyes and a very stupid-looking face.

“I don’t agree.” He Tang simply walked around them and continued on her way.

Li Chang was furious. This He Tang really didn’t know what was good for her. She needed to be taught a lesson!

So Li Chang stepped forward, grabbed He Tang’s wrist, and with a forceful shove, pinned her against the wall beside the path.

“He Tang! I gave you a chance and you didn’t want it. Don’t blame me for being rude!” With that, Li Chang leaned in, ready to force a kiss on her.

But before he could get close, He Tang bent her knee and drove it hard into his crucial area. He let out a sharp cry, stumbled back several steps, bent over, and clutched his lower body.

But He Tang didn’t give him any time to recover. She stepped forward, kicked him hard with her long leg, sending him crashing to the ground. Then she stepped forward again, planted one foot on Li Chang’s chest, and pressed all her weight down.

A series of screams and curses came from Li Chang’s mouth, startling his two companions. It took them a few seconds to react, and they immediately moved to push He Tang away. But before they could get within a meter, they saw He Tang pull a steel ruler from the outer pocket of her backpack and press it against Li Chang’s neck.

Now no one dared to move.

“He-He Tang, what are you trying to do?” Li Chang asked, his voice trembling.

“What am I trying to do? Guess,” He Tang said, pressing the steel ruler down a little harder, drawing a thin line of blood on Li Chang’s skin.

“D-Don’t be rash. I apologize. I’m a bastard. I have no shame. I shouldn’t have messed with you. Please, just let me off, please!” Li Chang’s legs went weak with fear.

“Oh? Weren’t you just saying you wouldn’t go easy on me?”

“No, no, I wouldn’t dare. My mouth just slipped. I spoke without thinking. From today on, wherever you say to go, I won’t dare go the other way. Please, be kind and let me go, okay?”

He Tang curled the corner of her mouth, but there was no amusement in her eyes. She had an absolutely stunning face, yet her eyes were filled with nothing but coldness, making Li Chang tremble with fear.

A few seconds later, He Tang pressed the steel ruler down even harder. Blood began to seep from where the ruler met his skin, and a searing pain exploded in Li Chang’s mind.

“I can let you go today. But if there’s a next time, this steel ruler will go right through your neck. Got it?”

“Got it, got it, got it!” Li Chang said quickly.

Only then did He Tang step off Li Chang’s chest, rise calmly to her feet, and swish the steel ruler in the air. She swept a cold glance over Li Chang on the ground, then turned around expressionlessly and walked away.

Li Chang lay frozen on the ground for a full ten minutes before he finally came to his senses and realized what had just happened.

He was terrified. He Tang’s eyes had been incredibly cold a moment ago. He truly felt that if he had done anything more outrageous, that steel ruler would have gone straight through his throat.

He touched his neck. There was still a cut on it, surrounded by traces of blood. Even a light touch made him wince in pain.

Never again. Whoever the hell wanted to mess with He Tang could go ahead, but he wasn’t going to dare.

Meanwhile, He Tang was casually holding the blood-stained steel ruler in her right hand as she walked to the school gate.

Amidst the astonished stares of her fellow students, she slowly walked to a trash can, tossed the ruler inside with a clang, and then, under everyone’s curious gazes, leisurely took out a wet wipe, meticulously cleaned her hands, threw the wipe away, and got into a luxury car waiting by the roadside.

As soon as the car drove off, the crowd at the school gate and the campus forum exploded.
